How Did a Professional Chef Become a Writer?

Before founding GhostWrite Studios, I spent years working as a professional chef. Restaurant kitchens demanded long hours, constant pressure, physical stamina, leadership and the ability to solve problems quickly with whatever resources were available.

As a divorced workaholic, I became accustomed to measuring life in shifts, deadlines and responsibilities. I knew how to keep moving, manage competing priorities and execute difficult work under pressure. What I did not have was much time left for a life outside of work.

The kitchen taught me discipline, improvisation, preparation, collaboration and the importance of completing what I started. An idea means very little when nobody is willing to endure the difficult work required to make it real.

Those lessons eventually followed me out of professional kitchens and into ghostwriting, journalism, editing, screenwriting and creative development.

Why Did Rory Kelly Choose Writing?

The direction of my life changed when I adopted my dog, Baldur.

I did not want to spend his life working for the right to feed him. I wanted to actually be present for it.

Baldur gave me a reason to reconsider what I was building, what I was sacrificing and what kind of life I wanted us to share. I began pursuing professional ghostwriting and screenwriting, redirecting the discipline I had developed during years in restaurant kitchens toward storytelling.

Writing offered something the kitchen never could: the opportunity to build a creative career while remaining present for the life happening beside me.

How Did GhostWrite Studios Begin?

GhostWrite began with a focus on professional ghostwriting, screenwriting and story development. The goal was to help clients shape their ideas, identify the strongest version of their stories and transform unfinished concepts into complete written work.

Ghostwriting is not about replacing a creator's voice. A professional ghostwriter listens closely enough to understand that voice, identifies what the client is trying to communicate and strengthens the work without stripping away its identity.

Genome was more than a writing project. It was an original tabletop game world with its own mythology, ecosystems, creatures, genetic traits, mechanics, artwork and potential to grow across multiple forms of media.

Developing Genome required more than traditional creative writing. It involved tabletop game design, narrative design, gameplay systems, card development, worldbuilding, visual direction, prototype testing and long-term intellectual property planning.

As Genome developed, GhostWrite became GhostWrite Studios: an independent intellectual property studio capable of developing original stories and worlds across film, fiction, journalism and tabletop games.
